GROUP BIOGRAPHIES

Carlos Cabrera is the youngest and Hispanicist member of Better Than The Machine. He was a founding member of the sketch comedy group Uncle Walter’s Hair in New Jersey. Carlos joined Better Than The Machine in 2004 and first appeared in Better Than The Machine Strikes Again! with significantly less hair than he currently sports. Carlos is proud to be the only member of Better Than The Machine not to have a college degree related to the theater. Carlos worked for spoof newspaper The Onion for awhile, used to have a car that is now a cube, and now works for Apple and has a new car that has not been cubed… yet.

Matt Gallo’s first foray into comedy was Writer’s Block, a one act play he wrote in high school, which won the New Jersey Governor’s Award for Young Playwrights in 1999. Shortly thereafter, Matt began studying at the Actors Training Institute in New Jersey and dabbling in stand-up. Matt earned a BFA Acting degree at Pace University in NYC. Matt joined Better Than The Machine his freshman year at Pace, which was quite charitable considering he had seen Better Than The Machine’s first show–Hey You: Laugh–the year before. Matt Gallo Trivia®: upon meeting one of his heroes, Terry Jones, Matt had him sign a copy of his Spanish/English dictionary, as he couldn’t afford Terry Jones’ book.

A proud native of Denver, Colorado, Reid Levin discovered the joys of writing and performing sketch comedy in the The Mile High City first as part of the Odyssey of the Mind troupe “goof.” and later as one half of the comedic duo Reid ‘n’ Reiman. In 2003, while earning degrees in acting and writing at Pace University in New York City, Reid founded Better Than The Machine. Reid has co-written and voiced several short cartoons and has appeared live in several commercials, including one for Sleepy’s in which his head appears on the body of a young girl. He co-created NBC’s comedy webseries The Guys in 3A. Reid is a regular contributor to the comedy website Smosh.com. He writes and illustrates humorous articles for the audience of Smosh, a famous-on-the-Internet comedy duo. His blog Reid Levin Dot Net details his current battle with leukemia. There’s also comedy, reviews, politics, and dirt. There’s something fun for the entire family! Bring the kids!

Christina Reynolds joined Better Than The Machine in 2004 for its second show, Reality Bites. She began her comedy career by mocking teachers in high school and getting kicked out of class. Despite this, she successfully earned a BFA in Acting from Pace University and is currently working on her Massage Therapy License. Over the years, she has portrayed all of the group’s most memorable female characters. Christina was awarded the 2006 “Friend of the Fancy Rat & Mouse Association Award” for her portrayal of the Doormouse in Alice In Wonderland. Her laugh is oft described as “infectious” and “loud.” While Christina still enjoys mocking her teachers, it is now to both her–and their–amusement.

Paul Syracuse graduated with a BFA in theater from Pace University, where he was a founding member of Better Than The Machine in 2003. Paul is a professional film director for the New York City branch of Animated Storyboards. He is also a professional television and film actor in New York City, where he appears on several soap operas and Saturday Night Live from time to time. He was once featured in a reenactment on Maury, in which he played a real jerk. A real big jerk.

Will Nunziata (Stage Director/Improvisation Coach) has been performing all sorts of comedy professionally since 1998. He is a graduate of the Second City NYC program and appeared in the first ever Second City NYC Revue Showcase, We Built this City on Rent Control. He currently performs with NYC powerhouse sketch group The Royal We. He has worked with NYC troupes Moustache McFadden, The Scoleri Brothers, Team Roo-Roo, Wilma, Jambalaya, Mission: Improvable NYC, and Good Morning Irene. He’s starred in several short films, a Choose or Lose commercial for MTV, and makes occasional appearances on the NYC stand-up circuit. Will also starred in the musical Massholia as supervillian George Steinbrenner as well as directed NYC sketch group The Spoils. Will has also trained at Upright Citizens Brigade and is one half of the “funny” rock ‘n’ roll band Tippelzone. He no longer has a gall bladder.

Born in Louisville, KY and raised south of Nashville, TN, Ballard C. Boyd (Video Director) is a product of the American South. He graduated from Emerson College in 2003, with a BFA in Film Production in three-and-a-half years. His work as director has been featured on HBO, has screened at over four dozen film festivals, garnered awards for “best film,” “best cinematography,” and “best writing,” and he has produced original content for clients such as Mountain Dew & Rounder Records. Before working with BTTM, he was the “third guy” of Secret Circus, where he was often featured in a dress. He is known locally in NYC for playing the ukulele, and looks forward to being in a dress again soon. More of his work is available at ballardcboyd.com.
